Privacy policy

The short version

We convert your file, hand it back, and delete it. That is the whole business — we have no reason to keep anything of yours, so we don’t.

• You don’t need an account, an email address or a name to use Converted.
• Uploaded files and their results are deleted automatically one hour after conversion — sooner if you remove them yourself.
• We never read, sell, share or train anything on your files.
• Everything travels over an encrypted connection.

What we collect

When you use Converted without an account, we process only what the conversion itself needs:

• The files you upload and the files we produce from them — kept for one hour, then deleted (see below).
• Technical details of each conversion — the source and target format, file size, how long it took and whether it succeeded. These are not linked to you and help us find formats that fail or run slowly.
• Standard connection data — such as your IP address and browser type, which every web server receives. We use it to deliver the page, prevent abuse and keep the service running, and do not build profiles from it.

If you choose to create an account, we also store your email address and the settings you save. An account is optional and nothing on the converter requires one.

Your files

Your files belong to you. We handle them only to perform the conversion you asked for.

• Automatic deletion. Every uploaded file and every result is deleted one hour after the conversion. There is no backup copy and no way for us to recover it afterwards.
• Delete sooner. The cross beside a file in the converter removes it and its result from our servers immediately.
• No one looks. Conversions run automatically. Nobody at Converted opens, reads or copies your files, and they are never used to train software or models.
• Only you can download. Each result is reachable only through the private link created for your conversion.

Cookies and analytics

Converted works without tracking cookies. We use your browser’s storage only for things that make the page work — for example, remembering the conversion in progress if you reload the tab.

We don’t show advertising, and we don’t use third-party trackers that follow you across other sites.

How we protect it

• All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS.
• Each conversion is stored in its own isolated space and removed as a whole when it expires.
• Access to our systems is limited to the people who need it to keep the service running.

No system is perfectly secure, but keeping your data for an hour instead of forever is the strongest protection we can offer: what isn’t stored can’t leak.

When we share data

We don’t sell or rent personal data, and we don’t share your files with anyone.

We rely on a small number of infrastructure providers — such as hosting — who process data only on our behalf and under contract. We may disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order, and only to the extent required.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — you have the right to:

• ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
• have it corrected or deleted;
• object to or restrict how we process it;
• lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Because we keep files for only an hour and don’t require an account, in most cases there is simply nothing left to request. To exercise any of these rights, write to us at the address below.

Children

Converted is not directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced on the site before they take effect.
